Duke Gardens is seeking a Special Events Assistant (Part‑Time) to support a wide variety of events in one of Duke University’s most beautiful settings. In this role, you’ll help bring events to life—from weddings and classes to donor events and public programs—by assisting with setup, coordination, and guest support.
You’ll work closely with event staff, vendors, and visitors to ensure each event runs smoothly while delivering a high level of service. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, working with people, and being part of memorable experiences.
Minimum Requirements
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, web tools)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a golf cart
Other Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and the public
Schedule: Part‑time, approximately 15–20 hours per week

Position Description (Essential Duties)
- Set up and break down events, including weddings, classes, meetings, and donor events
- Support on‑site event operations, including vendor coordination and guest assistance
- Provide information and assistance to visitors and event participants
- Monitor event spaces and ensure safety, organization, and adherence to policies
- Assist with AV setup, seating arrangements, and event logistics
- Troubleshoot issues during events and communicate with event leadership as needed

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $26.62. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
